.SYNOPSIS...A long duration gale event, with winds opposing the
Gulf Stream current, is expected to dominate most of the waters
today into early next week. This strong counterflow to the Gulf
Stream will create large, very steep, and possibly breaking waves
resulting in a particularly hazardous sea state. Low pressure NE
of the northern waters will move NE away from the area today. A
strong cold front extends SW from the low over the far eastern
portions of the waters early today, with a weak low located
along the front over the area. The cold front will progress
slowly to the E and SE today, and shift SE of the area by
tonight. Strong high pressure will build to the N and NW of the
front into Sun night, then remain nearly stationary NW of the
area Mon and Mon night. The high will weaken and drift S to the
SE states Tue and Tue night, and then drift E off the coast Wed
and Wed night. Hurricane Teddy is forecast to move to 33.1N 61.6W
at 8 AM EDT Mon, to 37.1N 61.2W at 8 PM EDT Mon, to 40.8N 61.8W
at 8 AM Tue, then continue N during Tue night into Wed while
becoming a post- tropical cyclone and moving inland over Nova
Scotia and Newfoundland Tue night into Wed. Long period E and SE
swell from Teddy will move into the waters tonight, and persist
into next week. For details on Teddy please see the latest
information from the National Hurricane Center.
