Offshore Waters Forecast
NWS Ocean Prediction Center Washington DC
408 AM EDT Sun Sep 20 2026

New England continental shelf and slope waters from 60 nm
offshore to the Hague Line, except to 1000 fm south of New
England.

Seas given as significant wave height, which is the average
height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be
more than twice the significant wave height.

Locally higher winds and seas can be expected in and near tstms.

ANZ898-202000-
408 AM EDT Sun Sep 20 2026

.SYNOPSIS FOR NEW ENGLAND WATERS...High pressure will shift E of
the waters early today. A warm front will lift N into the far S
waters later today into tonight, before low pressure moves E
across the far S waters later tonight and Mon while pulling a
cold front over the area. The cold front will stall S of the area
Mon night through Tue night as low pressure develops along and S
of the stalled front, then lifts slowly N towards the waters Wed
and Wed night. Strong high pressure will build N of the region
Tue and Tue night, then continue Wed into Thu night. The low will
strengthen just S of the region Thu and Thu night. Widespread
strong gale force winds, with storm force wind gusts, and
building seas are likely over most of the waters beginning Tue
and continuing through Thu night. Mariners should consider
avoidance plans as this significant weather system likely impacts
most of the region Tue through Thu night. Please monitor the
latest OPC and coastal marine forecasts.

Offshore Waters Forecast
NWS Ocean Prediction Center Washington DC
422 AM EDT Sun Sep 20 2026

West central North Atlantic continental shelf and slope waters
beyond 60 nm to 250 nm offshore, including south of Georges Bank
from 1000 fm to 250 nm offshore.

Seas given as significant wave height, which is the average
height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be
more than twice the significant wave height.

Locally higher winds and seas can be expected in and near tstms.

ANZ899-202000-
422 AM EDT Sun Sep 20 2026

.SYNOPSIS FOR MID ATLC WATERS...A stationary front extending
eastward from near Cape Fear early this morning will drift N
during the remainder of the day into tonight. A cold front will
approach from the NW tonight as low pressure tracks E and NE
while passing near or just N of the waters. A trailing cold front
will move S and SE and reach the far northern waters by early
Mon, moving further S over the northern into the central waters
during the day Mon. The front will likely stall from near the
Virginia Capes eastward Mon night through Tue night as low
pressure develops S of the frontal boundary and moves slowly N
and NE. Complex, strengthing, low pressure will move very slowly
N, along or S of the front, Wed through Thu night. Strong high
pressure will build N of the region while interacting with the
frontal boundary and complex low pressure system over the area
to generate strong NE to E gales, and potentially storm force
winds and building seas Tue through Thu night mainly over the
central and northern waters. Mariners are urged to closely
monitor the latest OPC and coastal National Weather Service
forecasts over the coming days, and begin to develop avoidance
plans for this potentially significant weather event.
