Temporary 72- and 96-Hour Surface Chart Suspension

Effective Monday, June 1, 2026, the National Weather Service (NWS)’s Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) is temporarily suspending its 72- and 96-hour surface forecast graphical products. Areal coverage and appearance of the sea state and wind/wave products will also change.

The temporary suspension is necessary to the urgency of meeting higher short-term organizational and stakeholder priorities, enabling developmental improvements advancing seamless marine weather services across the NWS.

72- and 96-hour wind and wave graphical products will continue to be produced directly from the NWS’s National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) (https://digital.weather.gov) for decision support and heavy weather avoidance. The NDFD can be accessed for seven-day graphical forecasts of winds, wind gusts, wave heights, and other weather-based hazards over the oceanic domain.

Products being temporarily suspended effective June 1, 2026 are:

Changes to Sea State and Wind Wave Charts

Additionally, all sea state, and wind and wave forecasts, issued by the OPC will include more detailed information on the winds and waves, leveraging the NDFD for a display enabling the modernization of digital products. The areal coverage of the products will contract slightly to north of 27N latitude in the Pacific Ocean. In the Atlantic Ocean, the areal coverage will be north of 27N and east of 80W.
